Council Teamwork Award - Katherine L. Staats, MD, FACEP

Katherine Staats, MD, FACEP, FAEMS, is a dual-board certified Emergency Medicine and EMS physician currently practicing in southern California. Dr. Staats started her medical career as an EMT at Virginia Tech in southwest Virginia, then completing medical school at Albert Einstein College of Medicine in the Bronx, Emergency Medicine residency at UT Austin, and an EMS & Disaster Medicine Fellowship at the University of California, San Diego. Currently Dr. Staats works clinically at the University of California, San Diego, and serves as the EMS Medical Director of Imperial County.

Dr. Staats has a passion for advocacy, and in 2023 she served as the President and Legislative Chair of EMDAC, the EMS Medical Directors Association of California, and this year completed four years on the board of California ACEP. Special areas of interest for Dr. Staats include rural prehospital care, disaster response, cardiac arrest resuscitation, and DEI (diversity, equity, and inclusion) in EMS and EM.

About This Award

The Council Teamwork Award is presented to a component body or group of councillors to recognize outstanding contributions and participation in Council activities. The award is given as needed, not necessarily annually.
