• AAWEP Immediate Past Chair
As part of the American Association of Women Emergency Physicians, where she currently serves as Immediate Past Chair, Dr. Gende created new programs for the Section to host or be a part of in partnership with other health care organizations. Under her leadership, AAWEP partnered with the International Section and assisted with hosting the EmpowerED Women Summit. She birthed the idea of the first AAWEP Retreat that sold out!
Section members past and present say Dr. Gende led AAWEP fearlessly and with intention while improving engagement and attendance at PowerUps and Section meetings.
Dr. Gende practices emergency medicine and sports medicine at Mayo Clinic Health System in La Crosse, Wisconsin.
A graduate of the Midwestern University Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine, Dr. Gende completed her emergency medicine training at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. She remained at the University of Iowa for her sports medicine fellowship and has worked as a team physician for football, women's basketball, field hockey, and wrestling squads at the NCAA Division I level. She is a member of several health care organizations, including ACEP, the American College of Sports Medicine, The American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine, and more. She currently serves as the head team physician for Saint Mary's University in Winona and as a team physician for U.S. Ski and Snowboarding Sports Medicine.
She enjoys weightlifting, CrossFit, running, hunting, working on her farm, and spending time with her family.
