Joshua S. Broder, MD, FACEP, is a member of the Board of Editors for Critical Decisions in Emergency Medicine and has contributed a feature article called The Critical Image to Critical Decisions every month since January 2007 – more than 200 feature articles. His contribution to the education of emergency physicians through Critical Decisions has contributed to the publication’s growth and popularity for nearly two decades. Editors and fellow volunteers who work on the publication say he is diligent in providing the most well-crafted articles to provide the best opportunity for emergency physicians to learn.

In addition to his work on Critical Decisions in Emergency Medicine, Dr. Broder wrote and edited Diagnostic Imaging for the Emergency Physician, which received the 2011 American Publishers Award for Clinical Medicine. He has more than 50 PubMed indexed publications. His research and education initiatives focus on appropriate use of emergency diagnostic imaging, as well as engineering and patient safety.

Dr. Broder is Professor, Residency Director, and Vice Chair of Education in the Department of Emergency Medicine at Duke University School of Medicine.

He has taught medical students, graduate medical education, and continuing medical education courses for more than 20 years and mentored undergraduate and graduate students. Dr. Broder has been an invited speaker at meetings for ACEP, the Society for Academic Emergency Medicine (SAEM), the Council of Residency Directors (CORD) in Emergency Medicine, the Eurasian Congress on Emergency Medicine, and the Society for Emergency Medicine in Singapore.

His accolades include the ACEP National Emergency Medicine Faculty Teaching Award, CORD National Faculty Teaching Award, "Distinguished Educator" for Enduring Educational Materials by the CORD Academy for Scholarship, the Duke University School of Medicine Master Clinician-Teacher Award, and the Parker J. Palmer “Courage to Teach” Award for Program Director Excellence from the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), a national education leadership award.
