Job Description and Performance Objectives
The Annals social media editor will lead, coordinate, and manage the promotion of the journal through various online networking outlets. The social media editor may create and coordinate the efforts of a social media taskforce to assist in achieving the objectives listed below. The social media editor will form a yearly plan and report on progress the following year. The amount of time needed for this role is likely 10 hours/month. The term is one-year and renewable, and the social media editor will be noted on the Annals masthead and leadership displays. There is a monthly stipend.
Below are some expected performance objectives:
- Manage the Annals Facebook page, posting at least 3/week, and monitor comments. After guidance, the editor can delegate tasks to the social media team and Annals staff.
- Manage all the Annals social media accounts (eg, X, Instagram, Bluesky, others) including ensuring posting about new articles in Articles in Press as well as other time-sensitive topics. At least 3/week. Annals staff may aid in these tasks.
- Explore new avenues for communication via other major social media platforms. The goal is engaging audiences to help generate ongoing knowledge of and excitement about Annals.
- 4Coordinate cross-promotion of Annals with ACEP and Elsevier social media leaders, and do the same with related emergency medicine communities.
- Monitor PlumX scores of high-visibility/impact Annals articles; promote using above.
- Maintain relationship with Annals podcast editors to facilitate promotion of content and mutual benefit.
- Engage the new Annals Social Media Fellow(s) to assist with projects that achieve the above goals and enhance resident participation. Reach out to organized resident groups including EMRA to cross-promote offerings.
- Develop periodic reports on Annals social media presence that includes specific metrics and rates of growth, and objective comparisons to the efforts of other media and publications.
- Work with Annals authors to develop visual abstracts and other methods to promote articles.
