Emergency nurses thrive on caring for the critically ill and complex patients. Learn about one of the most medically complicated diseases that exist – Sickle Cell Disease (SCD).

In this session you will learn from a panel of special guests including both individuals living with SCD and emergency nurses who are experts in SCD. The session begins with an interactive discussion with the audience and a panel of individuals living with SCD that will share their experiences. You will gain insight into common life-threatening SCD complications and how to care for them using evidence-based guidelines. Learn about acute chest syndrome, stroke, sepsis and how to treat pain.  Finally, are you ready for the new CMS mandatory reporting measure that will be required of ED’s in 2025, time to first pain medication for VOE? We will not only review the measure but help you identify strategies to help improve your time to first pain medicine despite overcrowding! These three hours will fly by as you learn more than you ever imagined and become your ED’s resident expert in SCD!  We encourage you to come with an open ear, an open mind, and an open heart. Become your ED’s SCD change agent!
