The American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) supports the global development of emergency medicine as a professional, clinical and academic specialty. ACEP supports the development and promotion of emergency medicine globally, as evidenced by its role as a founding member of the International Federation for Emergency Medicine (IFEM).

ACEP supports global initiatives including:

  • Formal recognition of emergency medicine as a unique and independent specialty;
  • The timely access to high-quality emergency care for all people;
  • Delivery of emergency care in all settings by appropriately trained physician-led teams;
  • Appropriate and specific education for all emergency care team members;
  • Global activities focusing on the development and promotion of emergency care, consistent with ACEP’s definition;
  • Development of emergency medicine as an academic specialty;
  • Collegial exchange and collaboration among emergency physicians of all countries; and
  • Advocacy for global emergency care issues.

ACEP encourages the international collaboration of specialty organizations to advance the specialty of emergency medicine around the world.
