The American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) is committed to fostering an inclusive and equitable health care environment for all individuals. We recognize that diversity within our organization is crucial to reflecting the diverse backgrounds and experiences of the patients we serve. This diversity enhances our cultural competence and improves the effectiveness of our care.

Emergency medicine plays a pivotal role in promoting health equity, serving patients from all walks of life, including those from underserved and marginalized communities.

By embracing diversity, equity, and inclusion at ACEP, we aim to strengthen the emergency medicine community, improve patient outcomes, address health disparities, and promote equality.

Therefore, ACEP affirms to:

  • Prioritize Diversity and Inclusion: Actively promote initiatives to increase diversity and inclusion within our membership, leadership, and workforce.
  • Enhance Cultural Competence: Provide ongoing education and training to improve cultural competence among our members, ensuring respectful and personalized care for all patients.
  • Support Health Equity: Advocate for policies that address social determinants of health and ensure equitable access to high-quality emergency care for all communities.
  • Promote Transparency: Encourage transparency in hospital and institutional data related to disparities in medical care, enabling effective identification and resolution of inequities.
  • Foster Collaboration: Create platforms for dialogue and collaboration among our members, health care institutions, and the communities we serve to share best practices and develop innovative solutions.
  • Remain committed to adapting our strategies to meet the evolving needs of our diverse patient population and to uphold our dedication to excellence in emergency medicine.
