Act Now to Reverse the Medicare Cuts

With ACEP’s strong support, new bipartisan legislation has been introduced to reverse the harmful Medicare Physician Fee Schedule (PFS) cuts.

The “Medicare Patient Access and Practice Stabilization Act,” would reverse the 2.83% Medicare Physician Fee Schedule (PFS) cut that went into effect on January 1, 2025, and provide a 2% update for inflation for 2025.

This bill provides critical stability for the Medicare payment system while also ensuring Medicare payments reflect inflationary pressures. Without congressional action, these cuts jeopardize access to emergency care at a time when emergency departments (EDs) are already overwhelmed by the boarding crisis and unprecedented strain on resources.

The bipartisan effort is led by Representatives Greg Murphy, MD (R-NC), Jimmy Panetta (D-CA), Marianette Miller-Meeks, MD (R-IA), Kim Schrier, MD (D-WA), John Joyce, MD (R-PA), Raul Ruiz, MD (D-CA), Carol Miller (R-WV), Ami Bera, MD (D-CA), Claudia Tenney (R-NY), and Raja Krishnamoorthi (D-IL).

Medicare physician payments have failed to keep pace with inflation for decades. Any continued erosion of physician reimbursement is a threat to the long-term stability of emergency medicine and the emergency physician workforce.

ACEP is working hard to promote policy fixes that alleviate the financial strain on emergency physicians and ensure patient access to timely and essential care.

Now is the time for you to ask Congress to stop these cuts.

ACEP will not stop fighting for the changes you need and deserve. We are proud to amplify your concerns and be your voice in Washington, DC. We are working tirelessly to make sure you can continue to deliver care when your patients need you most.
