ACEP-Backed Legislation Will Strengthen No Surprises Act Enforcement

Today, Congressman Greg Murphy, M.D. joined his colleagues Congressman Raul Ruiz, M.D., Congressman John Joyce, M.D., Congresswoman Kim Schrier, M.D., and Congressman Jimmy Panetta in introducing the No Surprises Act Enforcement Act to reinforce the historic No Surprises Act which protects patients from surprise medical bills.

“This legislation is necessary to stop bad insurer practices and end their gaming of the No Surprises Act,” said Aisha Terry, MD, MPH, FACEP, president of the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP). “Emergency physicians must be able to focus on saving lives rather than spending scarce resources to chase payments that insurers owe but deliberately avoid. This bill will provide long-overdue accountability to make sure insurance companies conduct business in good faith and end their flagrant abuses of the law.”
