Ethics Committee

The Ethics Committee promotes ethical practices of emergency medicine and identifies and develops articles, information papers and Policy Resource and Education Papers (PREPs) that focus on ethical issues and obligations of emergency physicians. The Committee also develops policy statements supporting the College’s ethical values, principles, and standards for emergency physicians and emergency care. Each year the Ethics Committee reviews all ACEP policy statements to determine those that provide practical application of the “Principles of Ethics for Emergency Physicians” for inclusion in the Compendium of ACEP Policy Statements on Ethical Issues within the College’s “Code of Ethics for Emergency Physicians.” The Ethics Committee also reviews ethics complaints following the College’s “Procedures for Addressing Charges of Ethical Violations and Other Misconduct.”
