Improvement in Medical Practice

Improvement in Medical Practice Component

What ABEM requires

Complete two patient care practice improvement activities and attest to them, one in the first 5 years of your 10-year certification cycle and one in the second.

ABEM is the authority on how to complete IMP. It’s easy to find out what you need to do.

How ACEP can help you meet these requirements

  • We’ve developed two online activities that ABEM approved for the IMP component: Pediatric Readiness of Emergency Departments and Imaging in Patients With Mild Traumatic Brain Injury.
  • Physicians certified by the American Board of Emergency Medicine may satisfy one current Improvement in Medical Practice requirement by completing this activity.
  • These activities are approved for AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™ and ACEP Category I credits.
  • Two more approved IMP activities are coming soon, one on palliative care and one on opioid use disorder.
