This statement was issued from ACEP President Dr. Mark Rosenberg on July 28, 2021.
It’s been an interesting few days in Washington, D.C. at our Leadership and Advocacy Conference (LAC). In addition to tackling our priority advocacy issues, we’ve been engaged in a robust dialogue with our Councillors and members about the Delta variant.
You may have noticed a recent joint statement from some medical organizations requiring COVID-19 vaccination among all health and long-term care workers. On Monday when ACEP was asked to consider signing on, we wanted to continue to closely monitor the ever-changing dynamics at a national and regional level. And we wanted to hear your voices about what was happening on the ground.
Yesterday, the CDC released new data about the dangers and worrisome trends of the variant. While ACEP has consistently encouraged everyone eligible to get vaccinated, after reviewing the new evidence and hearing your thoughts, the trends are undeniable. We must speak louder and amplify the voices of medical professionals across the country at this pivotal moment to try and reverse course. Therefore we have signed the joint statement.
While signing on to one statement alone may not shift the needle, ACEP and the medical community need to come together and focus on system-wide solutions if we’re to beat this pandemic.
