Churchill Downs Enjoy a day at the races by experiencing the exciting and colorful spectacle of Thoroughbred racing at the legendary Churchill Downs. In 1875, Churchill Downs officially opened its gates in Louisville, and began its tradition as "Home of the Kentucky Derby," which is now the longest continually running sporting event in America. There are seven bourbon attractions within walking distance of the downtown convention center and more than 40 stops to try on the Bourbon Trail, which will have you sipping Kentucky’s finest at local establishments, each stocked with at least 60 different bourbons.
