How I Remain Relevant
First, a disclosure. I am an ACEP junkie. Totally addicted, not in remission, not even in rehab. So, I speak from the addict’s perspective only.
I broke my clinical EM habit with slow withdrawal; moved to a different region, took a job in urgent care (2003), cultivated an alternative income source, and quit practice entirely (2015) when the alternative became all-consuming timewise.
But leaving ACEP won’t ever happen. My ACEP dues are paid up till 9/20/50, so it says in my profile.
So how do I stay ACEP Relevant? When friends talk, I listen. So, when Fred Dennis spoke about the frustrations and needs of the AONCR (at or nearing clinical retirement) EP, I listened. When Steve Anderson wrote about the AONCR issues he saw, I listened, and hooked him up with Fred. When the MIG reached out for a newsletter editor, I heard and volunteered.
Hopefully, by editing this newsletter, I will continue to contribute to the success of my ACEP family, keep in touch with friends, have fun, and REMAIN RELEVANT.
