About our Virtual Mentorship Program

This Sports Medicine Virtual Mentorship Program aims to facilitate the development of a mentoring relationship between experienced sports medicine/emergency medicine physicians and those individuals interested in pursuing further training or careers in primary care sports medicine.

It is estimated that there are just over 100 board-certified emergency physicians in the United States with additional certification in primary care sports medicine. Because there are so few emergency physicians with formal training and qualifications in sports medicine, it is often difficult for medical students, emergency medicine residents and practicing emergency physicians to find advice and mentorship regarding training and careers opportunities in sports medicine.

This program is available to medical students, emergency medicine residents, and practicing emergency physicians with an interest in primary care sports medicine. It is open to ACEP and non-ACEP members.

This development of this program was supported by an ACEP Section Grant awarded to the ACEP Sports Medicine section in 2012.

If you are interested in learning more or participating in this program, please register or contact the section secretary, Alex Tomesch, MD.

Become a Mentor

Mentoring is a voluntary commitment. It is expected that the mentor will provide unbiased advice, and participation in this program should not serve as a tool for recruitment.
