Letter From the Editor
Dear Reader,
Welcome to the first issue of the Remaining Relevant: Newsletter for At or Nearing Clinical Retirement Member Interest Group (AONCR MIG).
You might ask why we are doing a “paper” newsletter rather than depending on the more interactive email, engagED, or social media available today. The answer is simple, the single biggest complaint heard from those who expressed an interest in participating in the remain relevant effort is the difficulty they have with technology. Paper is as low tech as we can get. Although we hope to publish this newsletter on the ACEP website, we also plan to email it as a pdf to everyone in the MIG. And we encourage you to pass it on to your friends.
I will attempt to publish this newsletter monthly. As we all know, “life is what happens when we’re planning something else.” So, I will beg your indulgence, in advance, when I fall behind. If you want to become the co-editor let me know.
This is your newsletter. I will be guiding its form and content until it matures and becomes self-directed. I plan to include news and items from the Leadership, the Affinity Groups, and individuals. I anticipate regular columns will include Death & Dying, Finances for Retirees, From EP to What?, Mastering Technology, Pre-Mid-Post Retirement Planning, Retiring to Politics, Stories from Retirement, and a calendar of events.
As your editor, I have taken the prerogative to publish this issue in a timely fashion rather than wait for more member participation. As a result, I have included the contributions already submitted and written the other articles. I selected topics and content I thought you might find of interest. Now you need to tell me what works.
I plan to feature one or two people in each issue, highlighting their journey out of clinical practice, sharing their expertise, or writing on their choice of a topic. Please become one of those authors, send me an article and include a current (and past) picture of you. Pictures will help us reconnect, especially if you tend to forget names. Lacking a retirement story, I have shared one of mine.
How do you remain relevant? Send me an email and let me know. Tell us your stories.
And stay tuned for our monthly newsletter.
