Co-Sponsoring Resolutions with AAWEP
The ACEP Council meeting is just around the corner and QIPS is excited to be co-sponsoring two resolutions with the American Association of Women Emergency Physicians (AAWEP) section.
- The first is a resolution on Family and Medical Leave. This resolution seeks to further strengthen ACEP's commitment to equity in the workforce by calling for a white paper and policy statement on best practices regarding maternity, paternity and family leave for emergency physicians.
- The second resolution calls for ACEP to endorse and promote the concept of emergency departments as “Firearm Free” Zones (except for law enforcement), a key step in reducing the risk of workplace fatalities for emergency department staff and patients.
In accordance with the feedback we have received from our members, QIPS leadership recognizes that the concept of quality in emergency medicine is bigger than the traditional quality curriculum of improving outcomes, lowering cost, and satisfying patients. Delivering quality care starts with a healthy physician workforce and both of these resolutions, if passed by the council, will strengthen the safety and sustainability of our physician workforce.
