Dear Members of the ACEP Medical Humanities Section,
As we move through another year, I am delighted to extend warm greetings to each of you. It remains a privilege to continue on this path of exploration at the crossroads of medicine and the humanities with such a distinguished group of individuals.
Reflecting on our collective journey, I am reminded of the words of Chinua Achebe, the celebrated Nigerian novelist and essayist, who once said, "Art is man's constant effort to create for himself a different order of reality from that which is given to him." In our pursuit of understanding and healing, we strive to transcend the boundaries of conventional reality, embracing the myriad perspectives and experiences that define our shared humanity.
This edition features a showcase of the aforementioned quest and highlights the talent within our community. Included are excerpts from last year's Writing Awards in both prose and poetry, as well as highlights from the Visual Arts category. Through these diverse expressions, we bear witness to the depth and breadth of creativity that thrives within our midst.
Before we delve into the enriching content of this newsletter, I'd like to express my gratitude to our Chair, Kamna Balhara, MD, MA, FACEP, whose leadership continues to steer and propel us forward.
As we press on, I extend an invitation to each of you to sustain your active engagement with our community. Whether it's a piece of prose, a poem, or a visual artwork, your contributions enrich our collective tapestry and ignite meaningful dialogue.
In conclusion, let us persist in bearing witness, in empathizing, and in illuminating the multifaceted human experience in all its complexity and beauty. Together, let us amplify the voices of compassion, creativity, and resilience that define our shared voyage.
