Forensic Medicine Section Webinar "The Use of Alternate Light Sources to Diagnose Unseen Injury or Enhance Faint Bruising in the Strangled Patient"
Strangulation is a common and potentially lethal form of interpersonal violence. Only about half of strangled patients will have visible neck injuries and documenting neck injury influences clinical decisions and criminal investigation. Alternate light source technology has been promoted to identify unseen injury and to enhance equivocal or poorly seen bruising, but the scientific foundation and validation are controversial.
In a webinar presented by the ACEP Forensic Medicine Section, William M Green, MD, FACEP and Gerald Fineman, JD discuss current beliefs, practices, and the pertinent literature. View the recording of the webinar in ACEP's OLC.
