Step Into a Leadership Role

Every two years we elect new officers to lead our section. If you are interested in getting more involved in the Cruise Ship Medicine section and ACEP, becoming a section officer is a great way to do so. You can nominate yourself or any of your colleagues (must be a regular member of ACEP and the section). Please submit your nomination by August 14.

Dr. Ruben Parejo, current Chair-Elect, will take over from Dr. Joe Scott as Chair after our annual section meeting scheduled at 11:00 AM on September 29 during ACEP24 in Las Vegas (Sept 29-Oct 2). More information on our section meeting is coming soon.

If you have not yet registered for ACEP24, take advantage of the discounted price until August 30, and get Virtual ACEP24 for free. Visit the ACEP24 website.

Here are brief descriptions of the 3 positions up for election. For more information, refer to our section's operational guidelines.

Officers are expected to attend the section's annual meeting during ACEP' Scientific Assembly. View a list of future ACEP Meeting dates.

Chair-Elect (2-year term + 2 years as Chair)
The Chair-Elect assists the Chair in his/her duties for the section as designated by the Chair. The Chair-Elect participates in leadership discussions of the section, and under the direction of the Chair, assists in the creation and execution of section projects and initiatives. The Chair-Elect serves a 4-year term with the 3rd and 4th year serving as Chair of the section. The Chair-Elect year helps craft a vision and agenda to be implemented upon serving as Chair. The Chair-Elect may serve as Chair earlier in the event of resignation or incapacitation of the current Chair.

Secretary (2-year term)
The section Secretary's main role is to solicit content for our section's website and newsroom/newsletter from our membership and leadership. He/she works to publish new content in our newsroom on a quarterly basis. This is a key position for communicating cruise ship medicine activities and connecting with members by sharing their stories and adventures in our newsroom and email communications.

Councillor (2-year term)
The Councillor represents the section at the Council meeting. They voice the concerns of the Cruise Ship Medicine section on the floor of the Council meeting and in reference committees. Councillors also express the will of their constituents by the execution of their votes for or against resolutions and electing Board members and Council officers at the annual meeting. They keep the section informed of all Council activities and bring any resolutions that are developed by the section to the Council. An Alternate Councillor may assume the duties of a Councillor when so directed by the constituent delegation, with proper credentials. The Councillor will be representing the section at the 2025 and 2026 Council meetings in Salt Lake City and Chicago respectively.
