Dr. Brenda Barnetson Highlights Key Resolutions at ACEP 24 Council Meeting

At the recent ACEP24 Council meeting held in Las Vegas, Dr. Brenda Barnetson played a pivotal role in presenting crucial updates and resolutions. As a respected figure in the Cruise Ship Medicine section, Dr. Barnetson shared the results of the ACEP Board of Director elections and discussed several resolutions that are particularly relevant to our field. 

One of the significant resolutions discussed was the International Members Serving as Section Officers - Bylaws Amendment, which aims to promote global representation within the organization. This amendment is expected to bring diverse perspectives and expertise to the leadership roles, enriching the decision-making process. 

Another important resolution was the Allocation of Councillors, which focuses on the fair distribution of council members to ensure balanced representation across various sections. This resolution is crucial for maintaining an inclusive and equitable governance structure within ACEP. 

Dr. Barnetson also highlighted the resolution to Remove Gendered Pronouns from official documents, reflecting ACEP's commitment to gender inclusivity and equality. This move is seen as a step towards creating a more inclusive environment for all members. 

The meeting also addressed the need to Vet Intended Speakers with Divisive Language or Ideologies for ACEP Events, ensuring that all presentations and discussions remain respectful and constructive. This resolution underscores ACEP's dedication to fostering a positive and inclusive atmosphere at its events. 

Additionally, Dr. Barnetson discussed the importance of Transparency on Available Resources and Credentials, which aims to provide clear and accessible information about the resources and qualifications available to members. This resolution is expected to enhance the overall efficiency and effectiveness of ACEP's operations. 

Other resolutions included Tap Water is Sufficient Treatment, Climate Change Research and Education in Emergency Medicine, Human Trafficking Training for All Emergency Medicine Residents, Human Trafficking is a Public Health Crisis, Patient and Visitor Code of Conduct, Rationalizing Communication of Imaging Hazards to Improve Care, and Reducing Waste in Our Emergency Departments. Each of these resolutions addresses critical issues within the field of emergency medicine and aims to improve patient care and safety. 

Dr. Barnetson's participation in the ACEP24 Council meeting underscores her commitment to advancing the field of emergency medicine and ensuring that the Cruise Ship Medicine section remains at the forefront of these important discussions
