Elan Small will be joining the University of Colorado Wilderness and Environmental Section as this year’s fellow. He will be moving from the Bay Area with his wife Julia (an RN), their 3-month old Juniper and spirited terrier Windy. He went to medical school at Rush Medical College in Chicago where he connected with a wilderness mentor who helped introduce him to the world of wilderness medicine. Last month, he finished an emergency medicine residency at Stanford. While excited to explore all things wilderness, he has a particular interest in high altitude medicine and research, and will be pursuing a Master of Science in Clinical Science during his fellowship to help further research training. While he loved exploring the Santa Cruz Mountains, the Sierras and Yosemite, he is excited to spend time in the CO mountains.
