Corporate Development Director

DEPARTMENT Corporate Development
BASIC FUNCTION Cultivate new relationships with corporations including pharmaceutical, and medical equipment manufacturers to obtain funding support for ACEP, SEMPA, and EMF programs, annual meetings (sponsorships, CME and exhibit support), physician and patient campaigns, and other identified opportunities for corporate funding. Secure CME and non-CME grants to support ACEP’s education initiatives.

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities

  1. With input from ACEP member and staff leadership, recommend and implement a strategy to encourage corporations to prioritize and invest in the emergency medicine sector through ACEP.
  2. Research and identify opportunities for funding support of ACEP, SEMPA, and EMF programs, education, or other initiatives.
  3. Schedule and execute annual meetings with ACEP physician leaders and key companies to introduce ACEP. Explore and identify opportunities for collaboration and funding support that meets mutual goals and mission. Travel to various corporations and other trade show meetings which will require 2-3 days and potentially more overnight stays, approximately 6-10 meetings per year.
  4. Work collaboratively with the Chief Development Officer to identify and submit requests for membership on the ACEP/EMF Corporate Council (CC) to help achieve ACEP's goal to expand corporate participation on the CC and expand funding collaborations.
  5. Prepare and submit formal grant requests and/or corporate funding proposals required to obtain funding support. Monitor progress of ACEP funding requests and respond to corporations' requests for additional required information which may be required for funding consideration and approval.
  6. Work with other ACEP departments (specifically Educational Meetings and Finance) to prepare and submit the necessary documentation required by companies to accept their funding support. Provide fulfillment reports documenting outcomes as may be required by federal regulations (i.e.: the Sunshine Act).
  7. Work collaboratively with the Corporate Development and Grants team to identify, develop project concepts, and prepare proposals for potential corporate research and grant partnerships.
  8. Assure the overall satisfaction of corporate supporters and that all contractual deliverables are met. Monitor and report on fulfillment of sponsorship deliverables.
  9. Recommend promotional and fundraising strategies that support the College's corporate development requirements.
  10. Research and maintain profiles of corporations which have products in production or development that may benefit emergency medicine practitioners.
  11. Generate and maintain reports of contacts, meetings, and funding request outcomes.
  12. Supervise the development and maintenance of an up-to-date corporate opportunities overview and catalog.
  13. Provide support to committees and sections as assigned.
  14. Attend business and educational meetings as required.
  15. Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Division and department directors, particularly in the Educational Meetings, Educational Products, Emergency Medicine Practice, and Finance departments

External Contacts

Corporate executives, corporate marketing directors, sales executives, corporate product managers and College leaders

Education and Experience

  1. Bachelor's degree in a related discipline or equivalent related experience

  2. Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in fundraising, sales of pharmaceutical and equipment sponsorships for non-profits or associations, and project management including planning, budgeting and contract management

  3. Contacts with corporation executives at all levels including pharmaceutical and medical equipment executives

  4. Personal computer skills including spreadsheets and word processing

  5. Proven track record in securing large (six-figure) corporate sponsorships and grants

  6. Ability to successfully grown and sustain corporate accounts
