Member Spotlight - Dr. Tammie Quest

Dr. Tammie E. Quest is the Professor in the Department of Emergency Medicine and Director of the Emory Palliative Care Center for Emory’s Woodruff Health Sciences Center (WHSC). In her director role she serves at the chief of clinical operations in Palliative Care across all WHSC sites as well as leads the Center in the development of national and internationally recognized research and education initiatives. She is board certified in Emergency Medicine and Hospice and Palliative Medicine. She is a Project on Death in America Faculty Scholar supported by the Open Society Institute, Soros Foundation. She holds a strong interest in novel palliative care curriculum design and teaching methodologies for undergraduate, graduate and post-graduate medical trainees that she teaches locally, regionally and nationally. She is a co-editor of Palliative Aspects of Emergency Care.

She is a nationally recognized expert in palliative care in the emergency setting and is the Director of the NCI sponsored Education in Palliative and End of Life Care –Emergency Medicine (EPEC-EM) Project. She serves as a member of the National Priorities Partnership’s Palliative and End-of-life Care work group. She is the director of the Center to Advance Palliative Care’s (CAPC) Improving Palliative Care in the Emergency Department (IPAL-EM) project. With a strong interest in ethics and end of life care, she holds a core faculty appointment at the Emory University Center for Ethics and she a past-Chair of the Ethics Committee for the Society of Academic Emergency Medicine.

Her active research interests include palliative care quality and assessment and cancer symptom assessment and management in the emergency setting. She is the recipient of several NIH grants and foundation funding to support innovations in palliative care in the areas of quality improvement, emergency medicine, HIV palliative care, spiritual based decision making and end of life care in the assisted living setting.
