Dr. Andrea Austin is a leading emergency physician, simulation educator, and advocate for physician well-being. Her book Revitalized: A Guidebook to Following Your Healing Heartline transcends her personal burnout narrative, offering physicians insights into navigating the healthcare system and emphasizing the need for emotional intelligence and innovation as essential to thriving in healthcare.
Firmly believing in the power of a well-being-oriented workforce to deliver superior care, Dr. Austin's work focuses on autonomy, belonging, and competency for healthcare providers. Her pioneering efforts advocate for simulation as a pivotal tool in healthcare education. Her career includes a deployment to Iraq, serving at the forefront of emergency medicine at the Navy Trauma Training Center (NTTC) at LA County + USC, and significantly impacting military medical personnel training.
Dr. Austin's narrative advocates for a supportive healthcare culture, emphasizing her commitment to physician well-being through serving as Chair of the American Association of Women Emergency Physicians and host of the Heartline: Changemaking in Healthcare podcast.
Dr. Austin is the Simulation Director at Southwest Healthcare Medical Education Consortium and Senior Lecturer of Medical Simulation at the MOVES Institute. Dr. Austin is an Assistant Professor of Military & Emergency Medicine of the Uniformed Services University. She is a Past President of the Government Services Chapter of ACEP.
