Journaling

By Lara Vanyo, MD

Recovering from a difficult shift can be challenging. Whether it’s confiding in a glass of wine or in a partner or friends, we find ways to cope. However, putting the day's journey down in a journal is a reliable way to achieve catharsis and improve resilience. One option is to set a schedule for yourself to always write in your journal at a specific time. Positive or negative, work-related or personal, write it down. Some folks prefer to only write when they feel the need. Others keep a "gratitude journal" in which they write down what they are grateful for or the positive occurrences of the day every evening before bed. Group journaling and sharing is yet another option. Regardless of the method, all are helpful in lightening your load and improving your emotional awareness.
