2019 ACEP HIT Summit
ACEP hosted a HIT Summit at ACEP National Headquarters in Irving, TX on July 8, 2019. This summit was specifically designed to bring emergency physicians and industry leaders together to discuss the future of HIT within emergency medicine.
Objective
Bring various industry leaders and stakeholders together to create an aligned 3-year roadmap and 10-year vision for the future of emergency medicine and HIT.
Attendance
In total, there were 84 attendees representing 81 organizations. Attendees ranged from academic and government leaders, EHR vendors, data collection companies, billing companies, and physician leaders.
Format
he format of the summit was didactic in the morning and breakout sessions were held in the afternoon along with panel discussions. Didactic presentations were provided by government leaders and industry experts that focused on the current state and immediate future direction of HIT and emergency medicine. Breakout sessions were separated into 8 topics:
- Data Acquisition
- Data Integration
- HIT Policy
- Distributed Healthcare
- Population Health
- Quality Initiatives
- Augmented Intelligence & CDS Modeling
- Data Aggregation
Each breakout session went through two iterations; the first iteration focused on ‘Where do we want to be’ and the future of HIT and emergency medicine while the second iteration focused on ‘How do we get there’ creating a strategic roadmap to narrow the gap between current state and future state. Each breakout session reported their discussion to a reactor panel of industry leaders and experts for feedback and insight.
Next Steps
The HIT Planning Taskforce has compiled notes from the summit and have begun work on developing a white paper as a result of the items discussed.
