Dr. Shoemaker, an ABEM board-certified emergency physician, is a partner in the democratic EM group Elite Emergency Physicians Inc., where he practices clinically and has served as past ED Chairman and currently serves as their Director of Quality. He received his master’s degree in physiology before matriculating to medical school at Indiana University. He completed EM residency training at Western University (formerly MSU/KCMS) in Kalamazoo, MI. Among his organized medicine leadership positions, he is past president of the Indiana chapter of ACEP, an Indiana ACEP councilor, a member of multiple national and state ACEP Committees, serves as volunteer clinical faculty for the Indiana University School of Medicine EM Clerkship and multiple other endeavors. Currently, he serves on the National ACEP Board of Directors, and is board liaison to the Reimbursement Committee, the Coding and Nomenclature Committee, the Democratic Group Practice Section, the Toxicology Section, and the Observation Medicine Sections.
An inaugural ACEP Reimbursement and Leadership Development Program Fellow, Dr. Shoemaker now serves as ACEP's Alternate RUC Representative at the AMA where RVU valuation for the House of Medicine is proposed for CMS. He is intimately involved at the local, state and national level dealing in EM advocacy for his patients and colleagues, fighting for fair EM reimbursement, and tackling health care insurer tactics that negatively impact patients and colleagues. He currently lives in northern Indiana with his wife, Kaili, and two sons, Keegan and Aidan.
Dr. Shoemaker is the course co-director and innovator for the ACEP/EMBC Independent EM Group Master Class.
