FEC Accreditation Contracts Signed, Application Process to Begin by ACEP19
The ACEP Board of Directors at its April 2019 meeting unanimously approved moving forward with a Freestanding ED Accreditation program partnering with the Centers for Improvement on Healthcare Quality (CIHQ). Contracts have been finalized and the program should begin accepting applications in the next ACEP fiscal year beginning in July 2019.
CIHQ is a nation-wide provider of accreditation programs as well as a deemed authority for CMS, similar to the Joint Commission. They have expertise and infrastructure to provide site visits and manage the accreditation process, which makes them an excellent partner in this program. CIHQ has accredited over seventy hospitals and is well known in this space.
Accreditation standards used will be those developed by the FEC Accreditation Taskforce. Only one level of accreditation will be offered requiring a site visit. Accreditation lasts for three years with an annual fee payable each year. A discount will be offered for sites with 100% ACEP membership.
A website with information including the standards, accreditation process, program fact sheets, and the application itself can be found on the CIHQ website.
