Letter from the Chair
Dear Members,
First, I want to introduce myself to all of you as the Chair of the Event Medicine Section. I also want to emphasize what a privilege it is to be a part of this section's work and further our specialty in the coming two years. Ultimately, our goal is to support and advocate for our membership and their endeavors.
I have been involved in event medicine for many years from the ground up and have had the privilege of having great mentors in this field. I have seen this niche and section grow over the years. Just as the field of medicine is rapidly evolving, so too does event medicine. We are a growing specialty whose relevance cannot be overstated in the modern world.
My experience in both large and small-scale events throughout the Midwest has led me to realize that this is a very heterogeneous field and that no two events are the same. However, my conversations with many of you in the field have also led me to realize that we all face similar challenges. I have been very fortunate to learn from great mentors who have come before me and also to be a resource to pass on my experience to those who need it. It is this sentiment that has been my motivation for leading this section.
You are, in many ways, the front lines on the world’s biggest stages. As a section, we are here to support you, help refine your craft, and advance this specialty. To that end, please anticipate that this section will facilitate an ongoing dialogue with you so we can grow it into a top-notch resource.
We hope to facilitate a global conversation around the latest knowledge in event medicine and connect physicians of all events of varying sizes and venues. To this end, we will send out a poll to all of our members in hopes of getting a handle on the most important issues for you. Please take some time to answer this sincerely, as this will help provide a foundation from which we can grow this section. I hope this input can be used to revise and bring this section’s online resources on the ACEP website up to date in a meaningful way.
Furthermore, we look forward to seeing you all at the 2024 Scientific Assembly and are already preparing for the content of this section’s meeting.
Best,
Patrick Sinclair, DO
