UME as a career... Now what?

Moderators: Drs. Lovallo and Mirsch

The meeting focused on the integration of point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) in undergraduate medical education, with experts discussing their experiences, challenges, and strategies for implementation. The panel emphasized the importance of executive-level support, curriculum development, and student involvement in expanding POCUS programs across institutions. They also addressed the need for assessment tools, cross-departmental collaboration, and effective time management to ensure the success and sustainability of these educational initiatives.

Industry Roundtable

Moderators: Drs. Lovallo and Mirsch

The meeting focused on various ultrasound education platforms, including Emsono, Core Ultrasound, Esano, Sonosyn, Cmock, Vantari, Elevate Health, Intelligent Ultrasound, Vave Health, Cosmos, and Butterfly, each presenting their unique features and benefits. The discussions also covered the challenges in medical education, the potential of ultrasound as a tool for augmenting learning, and the importance of a sustainable and longitudinal curriculum. The conversation ended with a focus on the development of advanced applications for ultrasound fellows, specifically in the areas of nerve blocks and VEXUS.

Assessments (SDOTs, OSCEs, UCATs)

Moderators: Drs. Lohse, Lovallo and Mirsch

The meeting focused on the integration of ultrasound education in medical schools, with discussions on curriculum structure, teaching methods, and assessment challenges. The team also explored the recruitment and retention of faculty for educational activities, the use of students for teaching and assessments, and the importance of assessing competency in their programs. Lastly, they discussed the potential for standardizing their work and its value to residency programs, and planned for an upcoming session on educational platforms.
