Letter from the Chair

RSI Section Members,

Midway through the 2023-2024 academic year, your ACEP RSI section is hard at work representing the interests of our more than 300 section members. Unlike the ACEP Research Committee (RC), which is tasked with completing specific objectives set forth by the ACEP Board of Directors, the RSI section generates its own priorities in support of the organization. In recent years, we have collaborated with the ACEP RC and other groups to produce the latest in a series of educational primers intended to support the educational mission of our departments. Since 2009, the RSI section has also served as a point of contact for motivated members to connect with other academicians in the development of new and innovative approaches to supporting EM research and scholarly activity within ACEP.

But we need your help to complete our mission. The RSI section relies upon input from our members to establish section priorities, generate the annual agenda, and complete those tasks that the section chooses to undertake. If you haven’t attended a recent meeting, I would like to encourage you to join one of our quarterly virtual meetings (2nd Wednesday of “even” months at 11 am EST) and learn more about the RSI section and how you can contribute to our collaborative efforts. Members are encouraged to review the RSI website (https://www.acep.org/rsai) for the latest news and section publications, including webinars, primers, and other educational resources. In between meetings, members can also connect with each other through the ACEP engagED communication platform (https://engaged.acep.org/home), an invaluable means of reaching out to the thriving ACEP academic community.

We hope that you all become familiar with these resources and help us to find ways to support your department’s academic efforts. With your help, we will continue to serve a vital role in supporting research and scholarly activity within ACEP. I look forward to seeing you at an upcoming meeting!

Sincerely,

James H. Paxton, MD, MBA, FACEP
