Green Light for ACEP-Led Request to Form National Boarding Task Force

This week, HHS announced it will convene stakeholders through the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) to address boarding in the emergency department.

The creation of a task force was a prominent topic during LAC 2023 in the spring, when hundreds of ACEP members took concerns straight to Capitol Hill and mobilized members of Congress to make this request to HHS. There’s no doubt, your participation made progress possible.

When ACEP puts the influence of its members in motion, the government listens. Numerous AHRQ and Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) actions cited in that letter are a direct result of ACEP advocacy.

In the coming months, we will taking steps to optimize emergency physicians’ involvement in the “AHRQ Directors’ Roundtable,” and we are very eager to see actionable next steps that align with discussions during our own stakeholder summit, with which AHRQ was actively involved.

You can help carry the momentum forward and make sure your voice is heard by attending LAC 2024, where these issues will surely be front and center.
